ART ASIA

Timeline

Key Moments in Our Journey

AHAF and ARTASIA have pioneered a new model of art fairs in Asia—integrating art, space, and market into a cohesive platform that continues to evolve.

■ Future — Toward a Truly Global Art Fair Platform (2025–)

In 2025, ARTASIA will evolve into a transnational, touring art fair linking Seoul and New Delhi. Held at Yashobhoomi, India's largest convention center, the event will feature participation from five countries, creating a globally connected art ecosystem focused on cultural exchange, curatorial collaboration, and cross-market visibility.

■ Present — Expanding Art Into Urban and Cultural Life (2019–2024)

In 2019, AHAF entered Busan, establishing a localized model for hotel-based art exhibitions. By 2023, it transformed the entire Paradise Hotel into a gallery, presenting over 4,000 artworks and drawing nationwide attention.

In 2024, the AHAF Secretariat organized the Insadong Art Fair under the theme “Young & Future,” featuring a range of disciplines from traditional Korean painting to webtoons and animation. It marked a shift toward accessibility, creative diversity, and engagement with emerging talent.

■ Past — Redefining Art Spaces Across Asia (2008–2018)

AHAF (Asia Hotel Art Fair) launched in 2008 at the New Otani Hotel in Tokyo as the first hotel-based art fair in Asia. Transforming hotel rooms into curated exhibition spaces, AHAF challenged conventional notions of where and how art should be experienced.

Over the following decade, it expanded to Seoul, Hong Kong, and Busan, hosting dozens of galleries and thousands of works. In 2015, AHAF introduced the "White Cube Hotel" concept, followed by a full-scale, multi-floor exhibition in 2016—redefining spatial possibilities in commercial art environments.

In parallel, ARTASIA was launched in 2015 at KEPCO Art Center with artists and curators from 12 Asian countries and inaugurated the Asia Art Awards. By 2018, ARTASIA had grown into a large-scale fusion art fair at KINTEX, with 160 booths and over 300 participating artists.

From its experimental roots to its current cultural reach, AHAF and ARTASIA continue to
push the boundaries of the art fair format—shaping the future of global contemporary art platforms.
